DDR4 and DDR5 offers changed price at almost the same rate in this sample: about 4.1 changes per offer per 30 days. Their price movements differed. The median increase across the 11 DDR4 configurations was 9.5%, compared with 7.0% across the 11 DDR5 configurations. We compared repricing frequency, changes in matched-offer prices, and the availability of the cheapest listings.

Each exact part number had 10-15 offers. All 22 configurations qualified for the price comparison, with 7-13 offers per configuration in stock on all four reference dates. An offer was one listing for one exact configuration, not a unique retailer across the whole catalogue.
Key findings
- Repricing accelerated towards August. DDR4 went from 3.3 changes per offer per 30 days in June to 5.0 in August; DDR5 went from 3.2 to 5.0.
- Median prices rose for all 22 tracked configurations. Each comparison used the same in-stock offers on all four reference dates, with 7-13 comparable offers per configuration. Individual offers still recorded price cuts during the summer.
- The cheapest listing was not always in stock. The in-stock minimum exceeded the listed minimum in 147 of 2,024 daily comparisons (7.3%).
How often did RAM prices change?
DDR4 averaged 3.3 changes per offer per 30 days in June, 4.0 in July and 5.0 in August. DDR5 recorded 3.2, 4.2 and 5.0, respectively. These rates counted both increases and decreases, including offers that did not change at all.

Across the dataset, 2,690 of the 3,407 price changes were increases, or approximately 79%. The remaining 717 were decreases. This describes the direction of the recorded events, not the size of the price increase.
How widespread were changes?
Repricing was already widespread in June: 98.5% of DDR4 offers and 97.1% of DDR5 offers recorded at least one change. By August, every offer in the sample had changed price, and about 42% in each group had recorded six or more changes.

The TEAMGROUP T-FORCE DELTA RGB 16 GB kit recorded the highest August repricing rate: 5.8 changes per offer per 30 days. Its 12 offers recorded 72 changes during the 31-day month. Over the full summer, the kit’s median price rose 7.3%. The largest summer increase among the tracked DDR4 configurations was 15.4%, for the G.SKILL Ripjaws V 16 GB kit.

DDR4 and DDR5 price trends: June-August 2026
All 22 configurations had a common in-stock basket on June 1, June 30, July 31 and August 31. Keeping those offers fixed prevented a different mix of cheap and expensive listings from driving the start-to-end comparison. All 22 configurations ended August above their June 1 fixed-basket median, although individual offers also recorded price cuts during the period.

The Kingston FURY Beast 16 GB module had the largest increase in median price among the tracked DDR5 configurations: 15.8%, from $316.12 to $365.92, based on 12 comparable offers. The Corsair VENGEANCE 48 GB kit had the smallest increase, at 3.9%.
These were exact-configuration comparisons. A 16 GB module, a 32 GB two-module kit and a 64 GB kit were not interchangeable, even when their memory generation and advertised speed matched. The median percentage change across configurations was not a sales-weighted RAM price index.

How much did prices differ between offers?
For G.SKILL Trident Z5 Neo 64 GB kit, the median daily in-stock spread was 7.4%. For TEAMGROUP T-FORCE VULCAN Z 32 GB kit, it was 5.1%. The spread compared the highest and lowest in-stock price on the same day, divided by that day’s median. It did not combine a June low with an August high.

The spreads described price differences between offers marked in stock on the same day. They excluded delivery charges and did not establish the final checkout price. Cross-brand price differences were a separate question from the spread between offers for an identical kit.
Lowest listed prices and availability
The lowest in-stock price was above the lowest listed price on 147 of 2,024 configuration-days (7.3%). Each configuration-day meant one part number on one date. Every configuration had at least 7 offers marked in stock at each daily snapshot, so all 2,024 configuration-days were included.
TEAMGROUP T-CREATE EXPERT 32 GB kit showed this difference on 13 of 92 days. It had 13 offers in total and 10-13 in stock at the daily close. On days with a gap, the median premium for the cheapest in-stock offer was 1.3%.

The widest gap for this kit occurred on June 28. The cheapest offer marked in stock was listed at $552.59, $12.12 above the lowest listed price of $540.47, a 2.2% difference. A change in the cheapest available offer was not the same as a price change by one seller. The in-stock minimum could move when availability changed even if the underlying listed prices did not.
What the findings mean for retailers
- Keep frequency and price movement separate. DDR4 and DDR5 had almost identical summer repricing rates, both about 4.1 changes per offer per 30 days. Counting changes alone did not show their direction or size.
- Benchmark the identical configuration. Compare exact MPNs, capacity and module count. Use the median to describe the central price and an in-stock minimum to describe the cheapest available listing.
- Check availability before reacting to a low price. The listed minimum understated the cheapest in-stock price in 7.3% of daily comparisons. Repricing against that listing alone could mean reacting to an unavailable offer.
Methodology
Scope and comparison unit
The analysis covered 22 desktop RAM configurations, split between 11 DDR4 and 11 DDR5 configurations, with 270 configuration-offer pairs. The configurations were retained from the project’s existing exact-MPN RAM list. A retailer listing two different part numbers contributed two separate comparison units. All amounts were positive USD prices. Listed amounts did not include delivery charges or establish the final checkout total.
Price changes and aggregation
The period ran from June 1 through August 31, 2026 in America/New_York. Each offer had two entries per day, at 09:00 and 21:00, giving 184 entries per offer and 49,680 in total.
A price event occurred when consecutive integer-cent prices differed. Events were counted before daily aggregation, so a reduction followed by a rebound within one day counted twice. Stock-only changes did not count as price changes. Out-of-stock listings with a positive displayed price remained in the frequency sample. A pre-period baseline supplied the comparison for the first entry but was not included in the summer entry count.
Monthly event counts were averaged across all offers for each MPN, including zeroes, then multiplied by 30 divided by the days in that month. DDR4 and DDR5 rates gave each configuration equal weight. The summer rate used the full 92-day event total and the factor 30/92. The prevalence table instead counted each offer once and used raw calendar-month totals.
Prices, spreads and stock
Daily price comparisons used the final entry of each local day. The four-date basket was the intersection of offers in stock on June 1, June 30, July 31 and August 31. Each date’s price was the median of that same basket. Start-to-end change was (August 31 median / June 1 median – 1) x 100%.
The daily spread required at least two in-stock offers and was (high – low) / median x 100%; the article reported the median of those daily spreads. Availability comparisons used the listed and in-stock minima for the same MPN and day. A positive gap meant the cheapest listed price was below the cheapest in-stock price. An in-stock status did not specify warehouse quantity or guarantee successful checkout.
Limitations
- Selected products, not the whole market. The 22 configurations and 270 offers did not describe all US RAM sales. Results were not weighted by retailer sales, market share or transaction volume.
- Offer counts were not retailer counts. One retailer could appear against several configurations. Anonymous offer labels did not support conclusions about any named retailer’s pricing strategy.
- Comparable prices and daily minima used different baskets. Fixed-basket trends isolated the same offers across reference dates; the daily in-stock minimum could switch between offers as stock changed.
- Checks were not continuous. Changes between entries could be missed. Displayed price and stock did not establish final tax, shipping, regional eligibility or successful purchase. Average event rates did not predict the timing of the next change.
